pumpkin flop

I truly hate to admit this, and seriously thought about deceiving you all, but I have decided you deserve the truth: these photos are phony. If you haven't picked up on the fact that I love pumpkins from these posts or my instagram account, then let me bring you up to speed...I love pumpkins and visiting a pumpkin patch is something I begin dreaming about in late July. It's probably top 3 on my list of holiday traditions.  Now that that's settled, back to the photos above. Being the serious patcher that I am, I spent several weeks researching the best pumpkin patches on California's central coast. Once I selected the winner I convinced Erik to drive me an hour and a half north to take me to what I thought would be the perfect patch. Last Saturday was going to be the day I finally could to bask in all its orange glory. Unfortunately glorious it was not. Instead we were met by immense crowds, and when I say immense I mean no walking room, thirty minute waits for food and for pumpkin purchasing, and not a single patch! All the pumpkins were in bins just like a grocery store. Within minutes we both became hangry. We walked around the farm in search of serenity and instead found this sad field of lost and rejected gourds. I attempted to lighten the mood by tossing a few in the air while Erik captured my forced smile, then our thought to be fixed camera died. For good. After that we called called it quits, and that is the brutal truth.

But fret not fellow bloggers, I am no longer above your average street patch, and by golly if it's the last thing I do in October, a jack o' lantern I will carve! You can bet those pictures will be filled with real and true smiles. (not just the pumpkin's)

  7. Well now that is just a shame. I'd hate to drive an hour & a half only to find terrible pumpkins & huge lines. This isn't Disneyland! At least you made the most of it. :] // itsCarmen.com ☼ ☯

  13. Haha! I'm glad to have found your blog through Chelsea's tour through blogland. I feel you on this post! We lived out west for a 6-ish year stint for school. Being from the northeast we were always missing the changing maple leaves of orange, red, yellow and pumpkins on pumpkins on pumpkins. Anytime we thought we found a good place, we would run into the same crowds. Anyway, I think you deserve a long weekend at a nice little B&B in New England some autumn to live out your dream!!

  14. Sounds like the day from hell! Thirty minute waits for selection pumpkins from bins? I'm from Australia so we don't do Halloween and up until yesterday I actually believed the pumpkin patch thing was a Hollywood thing (don't judge!) but from all that it sounds like you'd been better off buying some at the grocer lol! Or you could try another farm this weekend? If they're still available?

  17. That's such a shame about the pumpkin patch. I'm planning to go tomorrow and am seriously hoping a weekday will keep it empty and quiet. Regardless, these photos turned out adorable!

  20. Flop stories are some of my favorites. They are unavoidable and build character. This one was well told and made me laugh. At least you got some cute pictures. Sorry about your camera, though!

  21. I hear you...lines and crowds are so not my thing. I would opt for the quiet corner too. I think these photos came out great despite all the aforementioned mishaps. What makes them especially awesome (and you as well) is that they're authentic. Keep on keeping it real!!
