Smokey Eye

posted on: 2.17.2015

Not to toot my own horn or anything, but smokey eyes have always been my strongest make-up skill. The blend from black to brown to base just sits right with my hand. I thought seriously about posting some sort of tutorial, but then I was already uncomfortable with the closeness of these images. The true key to my make-up application is lightness of hand when transitioning tones. Oh and of course shadow color in relation to eye color. For baby blues I recommend browns and oranges, why? Because complimentary colors are what force one's eyes to pop. In this case I used Born Pretty's two tone pallet, which worked perfectly. I should also mention that Born Pretty, a site with already ridiculous deals, is offering an additional 10% off when using the code UPG10! But back to the make-up... When rocking dark eyes, I choose keep my skin and lip routine simple so I avoid looking like I participate in a profession I shant name. A light pink blush like this color, or bronzer will suffice. Finally, I suggest selecting a neutral gloss or lipstick to complete your face for a night out on the town. Hope you all had a fantastic V-Day weekend! x's and o's

  3. I'm so jealous of this skill...I have never in my life managed to create a smokey eye that didn't place me firmly in the proffession you refused to name :P This looks amazing!! You not only SHOULD toot your own horn, you should make that tutorial you mentioned...it might help the likes of me :)

PS. What colors work with brown eyes? Everything I've tried just makes them look more, well, brown.

    1. Hi Zanna! I find that when doing my friends with brown eyes' make-up greens and golds work best. I hope that helps! xx

  10. I suck at smokey eye. Really suck. No matter how many tutorials I watch it's like I'm painting my eyelids with hooves. Maybe the trick is in the pressure of application? I am one of those people who unconsciously press their pens onto paper with force maybe I'm doing the same with a brush?

    1. It's hard! Since eyeshadow is a dry pigment lightness of touch makes all the difference! Try your softest touch, you can always add more if you feel it's not enough. xoxo
